Kitchen, bathroom
& extension design

I specialise in kitchens, bathrooms and getting the internal layout right when you’re planning an extension — focusing on the decisions that are hardest to change later: layout, flow, storage and how the spaces connect.

Based in South East London, working across Brockley, Dulwich, Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Ladywell, Hither Green & nearby.

★★★★★ “The only designer who didn’t just do a direct kitchen replacement.”

Kitchen Design

Independent kitchen design gives you a kitchen planned around how you live, not around maximising cabinetry. The result is a cohesive kitchen and dining plan, with flow, storage, sightlines and garden connection resolved, ready to brief your chosen supplier.

Design Consultation (2 hours | £325)

A Design Consultation is a focused first step for a kitchen renovation or reconfiguration. We’ll look at what’s working (and what isn’t), how you use the space day to day, and what you’re drawn to, so you can move forward with clear priorities, a stronger layout, and a practical plan for next steps.

Ideal if you want to get the layout right before committing to cabinetry quotes.

You’ll get:

  • Kitchen layout guidance — flow, pinch points, zones and practical improvements

  • Kitchen must-haves captured — how you cook, store, shop and use the space

  • Clear priorities — what to tackle first, and what can wait

  • Style direction clarified — a simple look-and-feel to guide decisions

  • Notes afterwards — a written summary of key points and next steps

Taking the design further

For some people, a consultation is all they need to move forward confidently. If you’d like more support, you can continue into Concept Design, then Detail Design & Sourcing if needed.

  • Best for: getting the layout and overall direction clear so you can take the project forward yourself — confident the kitchen will function well, and able to get like-for-like quotes from kitchen suppliers or a joiner. You’ll then source the exact finishes and fittings independently (such as tap, sink, hardware and lighting), or upgrade to Detail Design & Sourcing if you’d like support with those decisions.

I’ll develop the plan with key dimensions and resolve the day-to-day functionality — layout, circulation and storage — alongside a simple, cohesive look-and-feel direction, supported by 3D visuals to sense-check proportions and sightlines.

You’ll receive design intent drawings and a clear summary you can share with your kitchen company/builder to support like-for-like quotes and the next stage of the project.

    What’s included:

    • Site measure (kitchen area)

    • Existing plan

    • Proposed layouts (up to 2 options)

    • 3D visuals

    • Materials & colour palette

    • Style direction

    • Design intent drawings + summary document

Typically delivered in 2–3 weeks from measure visit

    Optional add-on: VR walkthrough | £350

  • Follow-on stage after Concept Design & Layout (Kitchen or Extension). This fee covers the detail stage only.

Best for: having the whole kitchen design properly resolved in detail — with all key items sourced (sink, tap, handles, worktops, splashback, lights and any shelving) — so you can move into the build with confidence. You’ll receive a clear shopping list to purchase from, saving you a huge amount of time and reducing the risk of costly mistakes.

I’ll take the agreed concept and develop it into a more detailed, coordinated scheme — refining the layout where needed, resolving practical details, and pulling together curated key selections so the space feels cohesive and considered.

You’ll receive a clear set of drawings plus a curated sourcing list to help you purchase confidently, brief your trades, and keep decisions on track during the build.

    What’s included:

    • Refined layout + key dimensions

    • Kitchen elevations with cabinetry detail, door swings + key dimensions (useful for suppliers or joiners)

    • 3D visuals for client sign-off

    • Lighting & electrical intent (kitchen area)

    • Materials, finishes & colour specification

    • Key fixture and fitting selections (sink, tap, hardware, lighting)

    • Sourcing list with links and suggested suppliers (appliances excluded)

    • Design intent drawings + design pack

    • Two check-ins (one pre-start / setting-out, one mid-build) to keep design intent on track

    Typically delivered in 3–6 weeks

    Optional add-on: VR walkthrough | £350

“It was a pleasure working with Suellen. She really took the time to listen and came up with some great ideas. I loved being able to bounce ideas around with her and the 3D tool was invaluable.

I know without Suellen’s guidance I would have made mistakes – but instead I have the kitchen of my dreams!”

Thinking about an extension?

Extensions are high-stakes, they lock in layout, light and how your home flows day to day. I’ll resolve the internal plan and design intent so the new space feels seamless, then your architect or design-and-build team can take care of the technical drawings and approvals.

Extension Design

For extensions that feel natural, connected — and worth the spend.

Design Consultation (2 hours | £325)

A Design Consultation is the best first step if you’re planning a rear or side return extension and want clarity on how the new space could work best. We’ll look at your existing layout, what’s not working, and how you want to live in the space, then map out the smartest internal planning direction before you commit to drawings and major spend.

You’ll get:

  • Layout guidance for the new space — zones, flow, and how it connects to the rest of the ground floor

  • Kitchen/dining planning — what can realistically fit, and how it will function day to day

  • Practical problem-solving — storage, utility/WC possibilities, and pinch points (especially in “dark middle” rooms)

  • Thoughts on openings and sightlines — how the space will feel and how it relates to the garden

  • A written summary afterwards with clear next steps

Taking the design further

For some people, a consultation is all they need to move forward confidently. If you’d like more support, you can continue with one of the options below.

  • Best for: planning the internal layout within the extension footprint — so the enlarged space functions beautifully and connects well to the rest of the home.

I’ll develop the internal layout with key dimensions — zones, circulation, kitchen positioning and sightlines — supported by 3D visuals to sense-check proportions before you progress to technical drawings and quotes.

    What’s included:

    • Site measure (extension + immediate connection points)

    • Existing plan

    • Proposed layouts (up to 2 options)

    • Key dimensions and clearances (design intent level)

    • 3D visuals

    • Style direction (high-level)

    • Design intent drawings + summary document

    Typically delivered in 1–2 weeks

  • Best for: when the extension is only part of the solution and you need the whole ground floor to work properly — especially the “dark middle” spaces, storage, utility/WC and overall flow.

I’ll develop a coordinated ground floor layout so the new extension, kitchen/dining and adjoining spaces work as one — with clear zones, sensible circulation and practical details thought through, supported by 3D visuals.

    What’s included:

    • Site measure (areas impacted across the ground floor)

    • Existing plan

    • Proposed layouts (up to 2 options)

    • Key dimensions and clearances (design intent level)

    • 3D visuals to test the layout

    • Style direction (high-level)

    • Design intent drawings + summary document

Fee assumes one floor level and standard complexity; I’ll confirm the fixed fee after a quick review of your plans and scope.

Typically delivered in 2 –3 weeks

“Suellen is incredibly talented — she walked into our home and instantly saw how it could be reshaped into something more practical and stylish. She helped us design our new kitchen-dining extension space so it works seamlessly and delivers a real wow factor, all in a clever, cost-effective and sustainable way. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!”

Let’s get started

If you’d like calm, expert guidance before committing to plans, quotes or build decisions, start with a Design Consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My work is best suited to homeowners in South East London who are planning a renovation and want the hard-to-change decisions properly thought through — layout, flow, storage, kitchen/bathroom planning, lighting intent and key finishes — before committing significant budget to the build. It’s ideal if you feel a bit stuck, want to avoid expensive mid-build changes, and would like clear, practical guidance delivered in a calm, well-structured process.

  • I specialise in the layout-critical parts of home renovation — kitchens, bathrooms and internal reconfigurations/extensions — where circulation, storage, natural light and day-to-day function need to be properly resolved.

I also design utility/laundry rooms, WCs and custom joinery, and can help untangle tricky furniture layouts where a room just isn’t working.

That said, I care deeply about how a home looks and feels. If you’re renovating more widely, I’m very happy to carry the design through into adjoining living spaces and bedrooms too, so everything feels cohesive and beautifully put together.

  • I’m probably not the best fit for styling-only work — soft furnishings, accessory curation, or purely decorative makeovers where the layout stays as-is.

My work adds the most value when there’s a planning challenge to solve and you want the space to function better, not just look different. If you’re not sure where your project sits, a Design Consultation is the easiest way to sense-check.

  • Yes — many clients come to me with early plans from an architect, design-and-build company or kitchen supplier and want to sense-check how the space will work in real life, and whether there’s a layout that would suit them better.

If the plans have strong foundations, I’ll develop them further. If not, I can propose alternative layout options once I understand how you want to use the space day to day.

  • I design around how you actually live, and what you’re drawn to aesthetically — so the space works beautifully day to day and feels genuinely “you”.

My style is timeless, practical and warm — rooted in smart planning, natural materials and a calm, uplifting feel that suits the architecture of your home.

Most people are making a space work, rather than living in it as well as they could. I start by spotting what’s off — pinch points, awkward flow, missing storage, light that isn’t being used well — then resolve it with a plan that makes everyday life feel easier. From there, I bring the look and feel together with texture, considered colour and details that feel right for the home — and unmistakably you.

  • Start with a Design Consultation if you want clarity, a second opinion, or help making decisions before you commit.

Choose Concept Design & Layout if you want the layout locked in, a clear overall direction, and drawings you can use to get like-for-like quotes.

Choose Detail Design & Sourcing if you’d like the design properly resolved in detail, with key items sourced for you — so you can purchase from a clear shopping list and move into the build with confidence.

Choosing the right service

  • You’ll receive a written follow-up. After our session, I’ll send a Consultation Summary capturing the key recommendations, decisions discussed and practical next steps, so you can move forward without relying on memory or scattered notes.

  • You’ll receive drawings you can get quotes from. You’ll get a dimensioned, annotated layout with supporting notes, a clear overall look-and-feel direction, and 3D visuals to sense-check proportions and sightlines. It’s designed to help you progress confidently and obtain like-for-like quotes.

  • The Detail Design & Sourcing package includes Concept Design & Layout (layout + overall direction) and develops it into a more detailed, coordinated scheme — refining the layout where needed, resolving practical details, and pulling together key selections so the space feels cohesive and considered. You’ll receive a clear set of drawings plus a curated shopping list with links, so you can purchase confidently and brief your trades clearly.

What you’ll receive

  • Yes. I design in 3D as standard, as it’s one of the best ways to test the layout and proportions as you design. I provide 3D visuals at the concept phase as well as detail design phase.

  • Yes. I offer a VR walkthrough session as an optional add-on (£350). Using a Meta/Oculus headset, you’ll be able to step into the proposed design at true scale and walk through the space, which is incredibly helpful for sense-checking proportions, sightlines, clearances and how the layout will feel day to day.

The session is guided — we’ll talk through what you’re seeing, note any tweaks, and you’ll leave with much more confidence before you sign off key decisions.

Visuals and VR

  • I’ll give you a clear timeline before we start. As a guide (depending on scope and availability):

    • Design Consultation: typically bookable within the next couple of weeks

    • Concept Design & Layout: often around 2–3 weeks from the measured visit

    • Detail Design & Sourcing: often around 3–6 weeks, depending on complexity and how quickly decisions are confirmed

If you have a deadline, let me know early and I’ll advise what’s realistic.

  • Design Consultations are fixed-fee and are invoiced on the day of the consultation.

Concept and Detail Design are fixed-fee packages. A 50% deposit secures your project, with the balance invoiced on delivery of your design package.

  • Yes. We’ll agree a realistic budget range early and I’ll guide decisions accordingly — flagging where choices will have the biggest impact on cost, and where it’s worth spending (or saving) for best value and longevity.

  • Each package includes a set number of layout options/refinements (as listed in the package details). If you’d like to explore beyond what’s included, we can — and I’ll agree any additional time and cost with you before proceeding.

  • Sometimes items arrive and they just don’t feel right, or they’re different to what you expected.

Design is collaborative, and it’s normal for preferences to evolve as the space comes together. I’ll help you sense-check alternatives and make practical swaps that keep the overall scheme cohesive. Where a change sits outside the agreed scope (or happens after items are ordered), I’ll let you know the impact on cost, lead times and programme before you proceed.

Process, timing & money

  • Yes. I often work alongside an existing team. Your architect handles the architectural drawings and approvals; my focus is how the interior layout works and feels, and bringing the key decisions together so your build stays coherent.

  • Yes. I’m happy to liaise with your builder and suppliers to keep everyone aligned on the design intent.

    • In Concept Design & Layout, this is typically limited to a short handover clarification (for example, one call or a short email round) to help them quote accurately.

    • In Detail Design & Sourcing, liaison is built in via the two included check-ins, where we can talk through drawings, answer key questions and keep decisions on track.

If you’d like further support during the build beyond what’s included, you can book an additional Design Consultation as an on-demand check-in.

  • I don’t submit planning or building control applications directly.

If your project needs approvals, your architect/technician or design-and-build team would typically handle the technical drawings and submissions. My role is to develop the interior layout, spatial planning and design intent — and I’m happy to liaise with your team so the layout and key decisions are reflected accurately in the technical pack.

  • Yes. I can advise on practical locations and lighting/electrical intent — particularly where it affects how the space functions. Final technical design, compliance and installation sit with your electrician.

  • Yes, joinery and storage planning are a big part of my work. I can develop cabinetry layouts and elevations showing cabinetry detail, door swings and key dimensions (useful for joiners). Final technical construction details and manufacturing drawings sit with your kitchen company/joiner — and I’m happy to collaborate with them.

  • Yes. I can recommend trades and suppliers where helpful. I’m happiest working with trades who value clear drawings, good communication and doing things properly.

  • Yes. I hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and can share details on request.

  • I’m qualified in both interior and garden design, with an Advanced Diploma of Interior Design (2003) and a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Garden Design.

I started my career in London on large-scale commercial fit-outs as a project collaboration specialist, then since 2020 I’ve specialised in residential space planning, bespoke kitchens, bathrooms, and extension-led reconfigurations — focusing on flow, storage, joinery planning, and the details that need to be right before you build.

Working with your team

  • Yes — Detail Design & Sourcing includes a curated set of selections and a shopping list with links for the visible finishes and fixtures — furniture, lighting, hardware and key surfaces. Your builder typically purchases the ‘behind-the-walls’ items and materials you won’t see.

  • Usually, no. I provide a clear shopping list with links and suggested suppliers so you can purchase directly and stay in control of deliveries and spend. If you’d like more hands-on ordering support, we can discuss this separately depending on scope.

  • Yes — where I have access to trade pricing. Supplier policies vary, and I’ll be transparent about pricing and the ordering route before you commit.

  • I can advise on appliance sizes, placement and practical requirements so the layout works properly (clearances, door swings, ventilation and service routes).

Most clients prefer to choose appliances themselves (or through their kitchen supplier) based on budget and brand preference. If you’d like me to recommend shortlists for specific appliance types, we can add that in as an optional extra depending on scope.
